An in-depth look at the Detroit hip-hop community is the focus of “Eminem and the Detroit Rap Scene: White Kid in a Black World,” a just-published book by German-born, London-based author Isabelle Esling.

In the 170-page volume, Esling, who started theeminemblog.com in 2005, traces not only the Detroit rapper’s multiplatinum career but also his roots in the Detroit rap world, including his friendship with the late MC Proof as well as associations with underground rappers such as Kaos, Mystro, Awesome Dre, Joe to the D and many others. The book chronicles Eminem’s acceptance in that scene and the influence it had on his musical evolution.
